Sealed Plywood / OSB Overlay

Laying 3/4-inch plywood or OSB across the slab and sealing it with porch-and-floor enamel is the option you see in older books and YouTube restorations. It works — for a while. The plywood provides warmth underfoot, handles tool drops well, and creates a continuous level surface over a cracked slab.

But plywood and concrete don't get along long-term. Any moisture in the slab gets trapped under the plywood and absorbed.
